Version v7
1. The school, its curriculum and its records
1.1 InternationalSchoolK12 ("the School") is an international online school operated by 1001097486 Ontario Inc., a company incorporated in Ontario, Canada. It is open to families in every country the School serves, without regard to nationality, religion or background.
1.2 Every course is written to widely used U.S. academic standards: the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and English language arts, the Next Generation Science Standards, the C3 Framework for social studies, and the School's own health strands. The United States has no national curriculum and no national school certificate or diploma: each state and each school sets its own. When the School says its courses are compatible with U.S. standards, it means only that each lesson is mapped to those published standards.
1.3 The School is not registered as a school in any U.S. state or any other country. It plans to register in Texas, Florida and other places as their laws allow, but it does not promise that any registration will happen, or when. Until the School is registered where your child lives, section 2.2 applies.
1.4 Marks, grades, transcripts, certificates and diplomas record your child's achievement in the School's own courses only. They are issued by the School, not by any government. The School is not accredited by any accrediting agency. The School does not claim that its courses or records are equivalent to any state's, country's or other school's qualifications.
1.5 A transcript, certificate or diploma from the School is accepted only where the receiving state, school district, school, college, university, examination board, employer or government body decides to accept it. It does not entitle your child to admission to any college or university in the United States or anywhere else, and the School does not promise that any of them will accept it. Many colleges and universities also ask for standardised tests, particular courses or a diploma from an accredited school.
2. Where the law does not allow an online school run with AI
2.1 You, the parent or guardian, are solely responsible for finding out whether the law where your child lives allows them to attend an online school run with artificial intelligence, and whether the School's courses, marks, transcripts or diplomas will be recognised, accepted or usable there — by schools, universities, examination boards, employers or government bodies — and for any equivalence, attestation or registration process they require.
2.2 If the School is not registered where your child lives, or the law there does not allow, or does not recognise, a formal online school run with AI, the School's courses are provided to your child only as tutoring and supplementary education based on U.S. academic standards, not as a school. In that case your child's marks and certificates still record their achievement in the School's courses only.
2.3 You are responsible for meeting your local compulsory-schooling, home-education or registration laws while your child studies with the School.
2.4 The School may provide transcripts, course descriptions and standards lists to help you, but does not guarantee any outcome.
3. How the School uses artificial intelligence
3.1 The School's lessons, practice questions and tests are developed with artificial intelligence (AI), checked by a second AI model, and reviewed by people in the cases set out in the School's AI policy.
3.2 Practice work is marked by AI. To check the accuracy and integrity of marking, a random sample of marks is re-marked independently by Claude Fable 5.1, made by Anthropic, or a more capable AI model; a person reviews any mark where the two disagree. Final assessments are signed off by a person before the result is released.
3.3 AI use is also covered by the separate consents you give for each AI provider.
3.4 Best effort, no guarantee. The School makes its best effort, in every part of its operation — lessons, marking, lesson chat, results, records, the platform and its support — to be factually correct, safe for students of all ages, and reliable, through review by qualified people, two independent AI models, and parents' and students' reports. AI and people can still make mistakes and services can be interrupted. The School does not guarantee that any lesson, mark, chat answer, record or service is free of error or always available; it commits to looking into every reported problem and correcting what it finds wrong. Nothing in this section limits rights that consumer-protection law gives you and does not let you give up.
4. How results are calculated and how your child moves up
4.1 The platform calculates your child's results; no result is decided by AI alone. For each grade it uses two measures. *Completion* is measured in hours: the hours of the grade's published core lessons your child has completed, plus the hours of the grade's published projects that have been marked, against the School's standard for a grade — 640 hours of lessons and 160 hours of projects — or against the hours the School has published for that grade where that is less. *Average score* is the mean of the per-course averages (your child's best released mark in each lesson that has been marked) together with the average project mark, the projects counting as one course beside the core courses. Your child may redo any lesson or test at any time, and the best released mark counts. Quick-check practice never counts towards results.
4.1A Projects are part of every grade and you mark them. Each grade has projects with a published rubric. When your child has finished a project you mark it against the rubric, through your family account, and attest each time that you have seen the work and that the mark is your honest assessment. Where the School can read the work your child uploads (including program code, which the School reads and never runs) it shows you its reading beside the rubric; the mark remains yours. Project marks count in your child's result and grade-point average as one course and are shown on the transcript as parent marks. The School relies on your attestation; a mark the School has reason to believe is not honest may be set aside after speaking with you, and section 4.8 applies to any dispute. Until a grade has any published project, its result is based on lessons alone and your family pages say so.
4.1B A growing catalog. The School adds lessons and projects to every grade while your child is enrolled. Completion is always measured against what is published or against the standard, whichever is less, so your child is never held back for lessons that do not yet exist; the family pages show the hours currently measured against.
4.2 Internal letter grades, grade points and competency levels. A: both measures at least 80%. B: both measures at least 70%, but not both at 80%. C: either measure below 70%. The measures are compared exactly and shown rounded down to one decimal place, so 79.96% is shown as 79.9%. Each letter carries grade points (A 4, B 3, C 2) and the transcript shows the grade-point average over finalized grades. The transcript also shows, in a separate table, a competency level for each grade and course on the School's published scale (Developing, Progressing, Proficient, Advanced, Exceptional). Letters, points and levels are the School's internal results only (section 1.4).
4.3 Regular promotion. Each grade has a 12-month term that runs from the day it starts: the day your first payment clears, or the day a promotion begins. When the term ends and coursework completion is at least 70%, the grade is finalized with the letter earned and, if your subscription is active, your child moves to the next grade and its 12-month term begins on that day. Unused months of a grade never carry into the next grade. You do not need to approve a regular promotion; the School emails you when it happens, and you may cancel automatic renewal at any time (section 7.6).
4.4 Early promotion. Before the term ends, your child may move up early when coursework completion is at least 90% and the average score is at least 80%, you approve the move, and the next grade is paid for (its annual price, or a grade you prepaid under section 7.5). The grade is finalized with the letter earned, and the next grade's 12-month term, and your renewal date, begin when the payment clears or, for a prepaid grade, when you approve the move. The months left on the finished grade are not refunded or carried over.
4.5 Extra time, the extension and late promotion. The School never extends a grade automatically. If you expect your child to need longer than the term, you may buy one 6-month extension for that grade at the price in section 7.4, during the term and before it ends, from the family pages; the School may also grant an extension to your child without charge or at a different price, which it records on the family pages. A grade with an extension runs to the end of month 18. During the extension, after seeing your child's current result, you may choose to move on instead; the grade is then finalized with the letter earned at that time, which is a C while completion is below 70%. At the end of month 18 the grade is finalized with the letter earned and, if your subscription is active, your child moves to the next grade. There is no second extension for a grade, and buying the extension ends the early-promotion option for that grade.
If coursework completion is below 70% when the term ends and no extension was bought or granted, the grade is finalized with the letter earned (a C) and nothing is charged. Your child's work, marks and records stay available. From the family pages you then choose whether your child moves to the next grade or takes the same grade again; either starts a new 12-month term at the annual price then in force (or uses a grade you prepaid), from the day you choose it.
4.6 Grade 12 and after. Grade 12 is the last grade. Its result is finalized in the same way; there is no next grade, so your subscription ends and nothing more is charged. Your child keeps access to their lessons, marks and records. A finalized Grade 11 or Grade 12 may be taken again for a new 12-month term at the annual price then in force, with the same rules.
4.7 Credits and the diploma (Grades 9–12). Each core course in Grades 9–12 carries credits. A course earns its credits when every lesson is complete and its average released score is at least 70%; credits are recorded when the grade is finalized, and a course taken again can earn a credit it missed, counted once. When Grades 9–12 are finalized with the School and the credits earned reach the School's requirement (24, shown on the family pages), the School proposes a diploma; a member of staff signs it. A transcript of grades, scores and credits is available from the family pages. Credits, the diploma and the transcript record achievement in the School only (sections 1.4 and 1.5).
4.8 Reports and corrections. You receive a progress report by email every week or every month, as you choose, and you can switch reports off at any time. If you think a lesson contains a mistake, you may send a correction request with your reason. The first review is by AI and free: an AI reviewer compares your reason with the lesson and its sources and gives a recommendation with citations; AI can make mistakes. A person at the School decides every request the AI recommends. If you disagree with the first review, you may ask for a second review by an advanced AI model for factual corrections, which costs US$50, or for a review by a person, which costs US$100 or more (plus any tax), as shown on the family pages before you pay. Review fees are not refundable, because every factual correction goes through the School's regression checks before it is released. If a lesson is corrected, your child may take it again, and the best released mark counts. You may also ask the School to review a result you think is wrong (section 8).
5. Supervision and honest work
5.1 The School does not monitor or supervise students while they study or take tests: there is no proctoring and no webcam or screen monitoring. The School's AI checks what students write on the platform only for safety concerns, which go to the School's safeguarding lead.
5.2 You, the parent or guardian, are responsible for supervising your child while they use the School, and for making sure that their work and their tests are their own.
6. Computers, internet and software
6.1 The School does not provide computers, tablets, phones, printers, internet access, networks or software of any kind, and does not pay for them. You provide and look after them at your own cost, including their security and parental-control settings.
6.2 Lessons work in a current web browser. For mathematics, science and lab work the School suggests free, open-source tools (listed on the School's website, for example LibreOffice, JupyterLab, GNU Octave, Maxima, Stellarium and Avogadro). Suggestions are optional; the School does not make, sell or support them and is not responsible for them. A parent should install and supervise any software for a younger child.
6.3 Where a lesson suggests a home activity or experiment, an adult must supervise it. The School does not supply equipment or materials.
7. Fees, renewal and extensions
7.1 Each grade costs US$3,499 for a 12-month term, unless the School shows you a different price before you pay, plus any sales tax, GST/HST or VAT that the law of your billing address requires, added at checkout. You see the total before you pay. It covers every course the School offers for that grade, including the optional courses it lists. There are no monthly fees. The prices, periods and thresholds in these terms are the School's published policy at the time you accept them; the School may publish a new policy for new purchases, and the family pages always show the figures that apply to you before you pay.
7.2 Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel. When your child moves to the next grade (section 4.3 or 4.5), the School charges the annual price then in force for the next grade's term, using the payment method you authorized, and emails you a receipt — unless you have prepaid that grade (section 7.5), in which case nothing is charged. The School does not send reminders before renewals; you can see your child's dates on the family pages and cancel there at any time. There is no pause option. If the charge fails, the School emails you, Stripe retries your card, and your child keeps access to the finished grade for 7 days from its completion while you update the card; the next grade starts when the payment clears. After those 7 days the lessons close until it is paid, but the finished grade's results and records remain available to you, and your account does not expire.
7.3 Early promotion (section 4.4) is charged when you approve it: the next grade's full annual price, plus tax, unless that grade is prepaid. Your next renewal date is then 12 months after the next grade starts. Nothing is charged twice.
7.4 The one extension (section 4.5) costs 50% of the annual price then in force (US$1,749.50 at US$3,499), plus tax, charged to your saved card when you buy it during the term. It is never charged automatically and is not refundable. With an extension the next renewal is at the end of month 18. During the extension you may choose to move on (section 4.5) or cancel automatic renewal.
7.5 Prepaying grades. You may prepay any number of the grades after your child's current grade, at the annual price then in force, each charged to your saved card when you buy it. A prepaid grade starts when your child is promoted to it and runs for 12 months from that day; it takes the place of that grade's renewal or early-promotion charge. Each prepaid grade can be refunded in full, including any tax, within 14 days of paying for it, as long as its term has not started; after that it is not refundable, except that if the School closes before the grade starts it refunds every prepaid grade that has not started.
7.6 You may cancel automatic renewal at any time on the family pages. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not refund charges already made (except under sections 7.5 and 7.7). Your child keeps access until the end of the term or extension already paid for, prepaid grades that have not started are refunded under section 7.5 on request, and their marks and records stay available to you.
7.7 You may cancel your first payment for a full refund, including any tax, within 14 days of that payment, as long as your child has spent no more than 5 hours studying on the platform since it. The subscription then ends. The 14 days are the same in every country, and the platform counts study time while a lesson page is open. Renewals, the extension, early promotion, review fees and prepaid grades whose term has started are not refundable.
7.8 When you pay, you ask the School to give your child access straight away, and you agree that once 14 days have passed, or your child has studied more than 5 hours, you can no longer cancel the first payment for a refund, and that no other charge is refundable except as these terms say, or where the law where you live gives you a right that cannot be removed by agreement.
7.9 If you accepted an earlier version of these terms for this child, that version continues to apply to the grades and extensions you have already paid for under it.
8. Appeals against marks
8.1 A student or parent may appeal a released mark within 30 days. The first appeal is reviewed by artificial intelligence — Claude Fable 5.1, made by Anthropic, or another large AI model of at least the same capability that the School uses in its place — and checked by a second AI model. It is free. The AI may keep or raise a mark; it never lowers one on its own.
8.2 A person reviews an appeal at no charge when it concerns safeguarding or academic integrity, when it concerns a final assessment, or when the AI reviewers disagree, are unsure, or would lower the mark.
8.3 After the free AI decision, a parent may ask, within 14 days, for a second review by an advanced AI model, which costs US$50, or for a review by a person (a qualified member of School staff), which costs US$100 or more — the School shows you the exact amount, and any additional cost of a longer review, before you pay, and never charges more than the maximum you approved. Fees are plus any tax due where you live and are not refundable whatever the outcome. A review may keep or raise a mark; it never lowers one.
8.4 The human review is the School's final decision on the appeal. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have to complain to a regulator or to use the law.
9. Release
9.1 To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you release the School, its owners, officers, staff and contractors from any claim, loss or cost arising from whether the School's courses or records are recognised, accepted or usable outside the School, from your child's local schooling obligations, from your supervision of your child, or from devices, internet access or third-party software you choose to use.
9.2 Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or rights you or your child have under consumer-protection or privacy laws.
10. Other terms
10.1 AI use and parental consents, privacy, safeguarding and the code of conduct are in the School's separate policies, which form part of these terms. The School's published home-learning policy (prices, periods, thresholds and fees) is shown on the family pages; the figures in these terms are the policy in force when you accepted them.
10.2 These terms apply to every family, in the United States and in every other country the School serves. They are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, except where your local law gives you rights that cannot be removed by agreement.
10.3 By ticking "I accept", you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, that you have read these terms, and that you accept them for this child.
10.4 Work your child makes on the platform belongs to the School, as set out in the family agreement (sections 1.4 to 1.6), which you accept before enrolling; the School never publishes it to promote itself without your written permission and never uses it to train an AI model. The School's lessons, pictures, narration, software and brand are the property of 1001097486 Ontario Inc., a company incorporated in Ontario, Canada and its licensors; the copyright and credits page on the School's site sets out the notices and how to report an infringement.
